The Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles meet in Week 2 of the NFL preseason. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, Aug. 17 from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA, and the game will air on the NFL Network.

After the Eagles came up just short last week in ending the Ravens’ unbeaten preseason winning streak, it remains to be seen if the team will give as inspired of an effort on Thursday night. The backup quarterback battle between Tyler Huntley and Josh Johnson will be key to watch. Separately, Cleveland has its own backup quarterback battle brewing between Joshua Dobbs, Kellen Mond, and rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Here, we’ll take a look at our picks for the best bets for Browns vs. Eagles in Week 2 of the NFL preseason.

All odds come courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

Browns vs. Eagles odds

Spread: Eagles -3.5 (-110)

Point total: 38 (-110)

Moneyline: Eagles -185, Browns +154

Our picks, best bets

Pick against the spread: Browns +3.5

This will be the Browns' third preseason game after appearing in the NFL’s Hall of Fame Game exhibition, and as they come off back-to-back losses they could be motivated to notch at least one victory. Additionally, there could be a backup quarterback battle brewing between Dobbs, Mond, and the emerging DTR, so an inspired level of play from either signal-caller should only benefit the surrounding offense.

Over/under: Over 38

The Eagles' last preseason contest finished with a combined point total of 39 while the Browns’ ended with a cumulative point total of 32, so a strong offensive display from both teams will be needed for this to hit over. Philadelphia may have been extra motivated to try and end Baltimore’s unbeaten preseason winning streak last week, so it remains to be seen whether they’ll give the same level of effort here.

However, inspired play from the Browns’ backup quarterbacks, as well as the receivers lower on the depth chart, should help with a stronger offensive display.

The Hall of Fame Game is now in the rearview mirror and the NFL preseason is ramping up. For the first time this season, multiple NFL games will take place on a single day in doubleheader fashion on Thursday. The Seattle Seahawks will welcome the Minnesota Vikings to Lumen Field for the preseason-opener on both sides. Both teams reached the playoffs last season, and the NFC rivals will try to replicate or improve on that success.

Kickoff is at 10 p.m. ET in Seattle. The Seahawks are 4.5-point favorites, while the over/under, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, is 36.5 in the latest Vikings vs. Seahawks odds. Why the Vikings can cover

The Vikings likely won't have Justin Jefferson and Kirk Cousins on the field in the preseason-opener, but there are position battles to monitor. Minnesota has a proven backup quarterback in Nick Mullens, with the 28-year-old from Southern Miss posting 16 starts for the 49ers before backup roles in Cleveland and Minnesota. Mullens appeared in four regular season games and completed 84% of passes in 2022 for the Vikings and is flanked by rookie Jaren Hall.

Hall has impressed in camp since arriving from BYU, and the fifth round pick threw for more than 3,100 yards with 31 touchdowns and only six interceptions in 2022. Minnesota also has a talented running back room behind projected starter Alexander Mattison, and that leans toward the Vikings deploying a quality ball-carrier like Ty Chandler, C.J. Ham, or Kene Nwangwu for large portions of this game. See which team to pick here.

Why the Seahawks can cover

Seattle is playing at home and prepared to showcase top-tier talent compared to a traditional preseason-opener. The Seahawks are projected to utilize a pair of high-end young players in Zach CharbonnetZach Charbonnet   and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Charbonnet rushed for almost 2,500 yards with 27 touchdowns in his final two seasons at UCLA, and the second-round pick is expected to take on a significant role for Seattle's offense in the regular season.

Smith-Njigba was one of the best players in college football in 2021 before missing most of the 2022 season, picking up 95 catches for more than 1,600 yards and nine touchdowns. He was Seattle's first round pick in 2023, and that young duo can bank on solid quarterback play from Drew Lock and Holton Ahlers. Lock had 21 starts with the Broncos before landing in Seattle and threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns during the 2022 preseason. See which team to pick here.

Where: Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts

Channel: CBS

Line: Patriots by 4½

Injuries: The Patriots are as healthy as any team can be during the wild-card round. In his weekly radio show appearance Monday on WEEI Boston, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said the team was “in decent shape” and would be “pretty close” to full health. Cornerback Jason McCourty, though, has been battling a groin injury and is one of the few players whose status is uncertain.

Tennessee, on the other hand, is in decent shape but just had some starters miss the season-ending victory against the Texans that clinched a playoff spot. Receiver Adam Humphries (ankle) has already been ruled out, and his backup, Kalif Raymond (concussion) missed the finale. Cornerback Adoree’ Jackson (foot) also missed the game and didn’t practice all week. Humphries, Raymond, and Jackson were Tennessee’s leading punt returners, and Raymond was the team’s primary kick returner.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (12) talks with Tennessee Titans inside linebacker Wesley Woodyard (59) after the preseason game at Nissan Stadium.

THREE KEYS TO PATRIOTS VS. TEXANS

1. Ground and pound: The Titans are led by Derrick Henry, the NFL’s rushing champion with 1,540 yards. He’s an imposing presence with 6-3, 247-pound size and enough speed to break away in the open field. Even while dealing with a nagging hamstring injury before the season finale, Henry ran the ball 32 times for 211 yards and three touchdowns against the Texans. Tennessee loved running the ball to the outside. The Titans ranked third in the NFL in average gain in rushes toward both the left end (6.7 yards per play) and the right end (7.1). The Patriots, meanwhile, enjoyed some success in stopping runs to the left end, ranking 12th in the league (5.0 yards allowed per play), but ranked 27th in stopping rushes to the right end (6.3). The Titans might look to exploit that.

2. Pats offensive woes: All season long, the Patriots' defense has been the team’s strength. Even the team’s most prolific offensive player, Tom Brady, has battled inaccuracy and inconsistency this season. Brady’s 2019 completion rate of 60.8% was his lowest since 2013 (60.5%), and his QB rating of 88.0 was his lowest since 2006 (87.9). Typically, the Patriots have played their best football in the playoffs, but New England has never won the Super Bowl in a postseason in which it had to play in the wild-card round. In order to buck that trend, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will need to dial up a barrage of creative play calls.

3. Red zone: Since Ryan Tannehill took over as the starting quarterback for the Titans in Week 7, Tennessee has been dominant in the red zone. Overall, the Titans finished the regular season first in the NFL, converting touchdowns on a remarkable 75.6% of trips inside the 20 yard-line, almost nine percentage points higher than the next closest team, the Ravens. For the Patriots, the key might be to simply focus on trying to stop Tennessee from mounting long drives and holding firm on third downs. But even then, New England excelled in forcing opponents to settle for field goals inside the red zone, stopping teams from scoring touchdowns on 48.3% of trips, ranking fourth-best in the NFL.
